Forensic Science: Foodborne Outbreak Investigation Teacher’s Guide

This AP Biology level lab is designed to be equivalent to a college level lab. This lab is a student-driven discovery process based on a real-world Shigella outbreak in the year 2000. Students use scientific reasoning to mimic a foodborne outbreak investigation and design an experiment using gel electrophoresis to determine the source of the outbreak. This lab exercise encourages students to ask the right questions and develop the skills for approaching a problem with the scientific method.
